There are, as of March 2024, 83 children on puberty blockers in the UK National Health Service (NHS).
The conservative christians (usually evangelicals) are gunning for queer people. They have a lot of money and buy a lot of influencethrough organisations such as the lobby groups based at 55 Tufton Street in London.
Their latest target has been the prescribing of puberty blockers for children with gender dysphoria, and lots of their right-wing mouthpieces have been getting articles published attacking this evidence-based medical practice.
There are nearly 7,000 secondary schools in the UK, over 4 million pupils. The 83 kids on puberty blockers represent two-thousandths of one percent (0.002%) of secondary school pupils.
Politicising children who are already vulnerable for ideological reasons is an absolutely heinous thing to do. Who knows why these children need this treatment? Who knows what led up to their treatment? Almost nobody knows, beyond their family and the medical professsionals. Certainly not the evangelicals, certainly not the 'gender-critical' grift.
This is the scandal.
Anything that discredits the creation myth (the book of Genesis) undermines the tenets of christian fundamentalism. This is why they are on the attack. Their fundamentalist beliefs are being challenged.
God did not create the world in less than a week. Weeks didn't exist. God did not make Adam, then Eve. Female is the default human state, their book should state that God made Eve, then Adam.
This is why they disparage non-binary people more than trans people - trans doesn't challenge their biblical gender binary.
And all this is why the conservative christians have been formally and relentlessly attacking trans people since 2018. Anyone gender non-conforming is, to them, an existential threat.
Fight them at absolutely every opportunity. Their creationist beliefs are unquestionably delusional. Don't let them twist it any other way.
